Review: Forrest Gump
This review comes from a group of 24 students from a school in Germany. We think that this simplified version of 'Forrest Gump' by Winston Groom tells a lovely, somewhat different story. While reading the book, you learn more about the thoughts and feelings of mentally challenged people. You sympathize with Forrest, the talented but somehow helpless main character of the book. Forrest's life is told in a maybe a bit too short, but still funny and demanding way. Forrest is a thoroughly good person. It's not easy for him to get accepted by others and he is very adapted to his mother and a girl named Jenny Curran. She was the only one who never ran away from him at school. Throughout his whole life in which he is a football player, a war hero, a chess player, plays the harmonica in a band, goes into Space, is a shrimp boat captain, a wrestler and(surprise) a daddy, his thoughts are always and always on Jenny. The chapters are not very detailed and so the leap between child - and manhood seems very big. Sometimes the book is a little boring, and some of us thought, the book was a bit to easy, but all in all we say that it is a good and well readable book. Also, most of the time the story is kept gripping and instructive - a story with feeling! Though it might not be as interesting as the movie, it is as we have already said, a beautiful story, an ideal school book (there are activities on the last few pages) that is great for people who learn English at school.
