Once in a blue moon, a single character comes along and makes the whole world laugh. From the moment Mickey Mouse appeared on the big screen whistling on a steamboat, Walt Disney's endearing little mouse captured hearts and tickled funny bones. And he hasn't stopped. In celebration of the world's most famous and best-loved character, his best friends -- Minnie, Donald, Goofy, and the gang -- present Mickey through the years in his most memorable movie shorts. From Mickey's color debut in "The Band Concert," to the never-before-released-on-video "Orphan's Picnic," and "Mickey's Surprise Party," to the inspired "Mickey And The Seal," THE SPIRIT OF MICKEY is an engaging collection of Mickey's best and brightest moments.Customer reviews: Vintage Mickey, 2008-04-20 This video is wonderful. It reminds me of my childhood. It is the real Mickey Mouse cartoons that we watched as kids. I was very satisfied with this product. My daughter(5) also loves this video.
My family and I love this collection of Mickey Mouse and his pals!, 2005-11-21 This is a great collection of some of the best Mickey Mouse color cartoons. It starts off with "The Band Concert" which incidentally was Mickey's first cartoon in color as related by Minnie. It is very funny and is full of good music, both classical (William Tell Overture) and tin pan alley (Turkey in the Straw). "Thru the Mirror" is a fun-but-dated take-off on Lewis Carroll's classics "Through The Looking Glass" and "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland". 1941's "Lend A Paw" won an Academy Award for Short Subject with its classic "Good Pluto"/"Bad Pluto" storyline. Next, Donald Duck stars in the "Orphan's Picnic" with scores of naughty little mice who are truly out for a good time. This is followed by "The Worm Turns" featuring a pre-Sorceror's Apprentice Mickey Mouse up to some familiar tricks, mixing a strength potion to be used only on the underdogs. "Mickey's Surprise Party" is a cute little vignette starring Mickey and Minnie, their respective pooches, and some cookies with bite. "Mickey and the Seal" features the ever-irascible Pluto and an adorable little seal pup. "Mickey's Trailer" stars the unbeatable trio of Mickey, Donald, and Goofy out on the open road for a very wild ride. "Canine Caddy" teams Pluto and Mickey with a goofy gopher for a not-so-relaxing round of golf. "Mr. Mouse Takes a Trip" again pits Mickey and Pluto against a pet-peeved train conductor in the form of Pegleg Pete and is the last color cartoon on the video. The collection closes with "Steamboat Willie", the first synchronized-sound cartoon ever made which showcases Mickey in his original impish glory.
Even though this is only available on VHS, I find that the picture and sound quality are quite good and that the variety of the selections and the intrinsic value of the cartoons themselves are well worth the price of purchase.
