Whether it's the off-color characters, the crazy scenarios or the bizarre plot-lines, "Futurama," as a videogame, was almost guaranteed to be a good time. However, when you actually sit down and play it, it's shocking just how pedestrian and bland it really is. Granted, playing as Fry, Leela, Bender and even Dr. Zoidberg is enough to put a grin on any fan's face (especially since all the voice actors reprise their roles), but what the game gives you is a whole lot of nothing. You'll walk around shooting at monsters, aliens and robots, climbing high and collecting a whole lot of stuff that you never really have a use for. There are a few tricky parts here and there, and a few stages in the game -- especially one send-off of an infamous "Indiana Jones" scene -- show just a little of how good the game could actually be, but for the most part, it's redundant.
To help the cause, there is enough of a story in the game that it could be seen as a "lost episode" of sorts. In fact, if you're really starved for new "Futurama" after you've gone through all the DVD's countless times, it's a plus to have this game around. Even if the gameplay is a little stale, it's at least nice to have one videogame based on the most underrated animated sitcom ever. It's not as good a licensed game as, say, "The Simpsons Hit & Run" but it's a decent way to pass an afternoon, which is about all it'll take to get through this game. Is it worth picking up used at the usual asking price? Depends on how big a fan you are. If you can accept that it's not going to live up to any expectations in your head, it'll be worth checking out.
The best alien fighting game ever!!!, 2006-07-17 This is recomended game for all the fellow si-fi geeks like me!
